Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is set to launch the third edition of its Summer Environmental Club Program, themed “Guardians of the Environment,” from June 21 to July 2. The initiative aims to instill a culture of sustainability in young people and raise their awareness of environmental issues.
According to Qatar News Agency, the club targets students aged 11 to 17 through programs that blend theoretical knowledge with practical application. It is part of the Ministry’s efforts to prepare a generation more connected to environmental issues. Dr. Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the Ministry, confirmed that the club has reached its full capacity of 20 students, reflecting the ministry’s success in engaging its target audience.
Dr. Al Hajri highlighted that the summer environmental club is a significant initiative showcasing the role of corporate communication in supporting environmental work by transforming awareness messages into practical community programs. He noted that environmental awareness now involves building interactive experiences to enhance environmental responsibility among the youth.
The ministry has prepared a comprehensive program featuring specialized workshops, interactive activities, and field visits. These allow participants to learn about environmental work in a simplified manner, understanding the ministry’s role in protecting the environment and preserving Qatar’s natural resources.
This year’s edition builds upon the successes of the previous two, establishing the club’s position as a summer program that combines education, awareness, and entertainment. The program includes workshops on environmental impact assessment, mobile environmental photography, environmental monitoring, safe use of radiation, and hazardous waste tracking, alongside technology and environmental protection topics.
Dr. Al Hajri emphasized that the club aims to foster an early relationship between young people and the environment. By translating environmental concepts into daily practices, the program seeks to instill a sense of shared responsibility for environmental protection. He expressed confidence that participants will become ambassadors of environmental awareness within their communities.
Concluding his statement to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Hajri remarked that the Summer Environmental Club is a crucial initiative for instilling sustainability in young people. The ministry anticipates that the third edition will have a tangible impact on raising students’ awareness and encouraging them to contribute actively to protecting Qatar’s environment for future generations.
