Ministry of Transport Expands Maritime e-Services Portfolio

Doha: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has launched and automated 14 additional services related to maritime transportation affairs. Now accessible electronically via the MOT's official website, these new e-services encompass transactions for both large vessels and seafarers' affairs.

According to Qatar News Agency, the 10 e-services for big vessels cover various aspects such as ship sanitation, permanent and provisional registration, annual fees, renewal of provisional registration, extension and exemption certificates, certificate of seaworthiness, issuing NOL for navigational warning announcements, and penalties record and payment. Additionally, the 4 seafarers' affairs e-services address the issuance, renewal, amendment, and replacement of the endorsement attesting the recognition of GMDSS operator certificates. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is an international maritime safety protocol mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the SOLAS convention.

Beneficiaries now have the convenience of applying for these e-services at any time and from any location, thereby saving time and effort. Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al Kuwari, Acting Director of the MOT's Information Systems Department, stated that the automation of this new package of maritime services is part of the Ministry's broader digital transformation strategy. This strategy aims to enhance efficiency, simplify transactions, streamline procedures, and improve user experience while modernizing the transportation industry in line with technological advancements and innovation.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized that the MOT will continue to automate more services to further enhance user experience and improve the quality of life for all beneficiaries. This effort is part of the national goal to improve the quality of government services for individuals and businesses, boost efficiency in government administration through automation and advanced applications, and develop a more open government with increased participation from all parties.
