Sokoto: Over 40 individuals are missing following a boat accident in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria, the Nigerian authorities announced Sunday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Nigerian National Emergency Management Agency reported that the boat, carrying over 50 passengers en route to a market, capsized. It added that approximately 10 people have been rescued, while over 40 remain unaccounted for.
Boat accidents in Nigeria are common in waterways due to overcrowding and poor maintenance, particularly during the annual rainy season when rivers and lakes rise.
