Gaza city: The Palestinian government has called on Israeli occupation forces to allow Palestinian and international civil defense and rescue teams to enter the Gaza Strip to help rescue people trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed residential building in Gaza City.
According to Qatar News Agency, the government reported that 20 people had been killed and dozens more injured or missing in the collapse, with most of the casualties being women and children. The incident has prompted urgent appeals for international intervention.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Palestinian government urged the international community to exert urgent pressure to secure access for rescue teams, as well as the heavy machinery and equipment needed to clear the rubble, recover bodies, and rescue those trapped beneath the debris.
Rescue teams had recovered the bodies of 20 people from the rubble of the residential building, which was sheltering displaced people in Gaza City. The building collapsed following earlier bombardment by Israeli forces during the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
