President Aoun Confirms Readiness to Cooperate with UNRWA on Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon

Doha: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun confirmed his country’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to address any issue related to the situation of Palestinians in Lebanon.

According to Qatar News Agency, Aoun praised the efforts made by the UN agency to serve Palestinians during his meeting with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini. He noted that the Lebanese army has taken over the sites in the Bekaa and Chouf in Mount Lebanon and in the north.

Lazzarini reviewed the difficulties facing UNRWA’s work in several countries, especially following a reduction in its funding, and discussed cooperation and coordination regarding the situation of Palestinians in Lebanese camps.

The Lebanese President also discussed the situation in the south and the work of the observers with Chief of Staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), General Patrick Gosha. He emphasized the need to implement UN Resolution 1701, withdraw Israeli forces from Lebanese lands occupied in the last war in the south, and release Lebanese prisoners.
