Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani participated Thursday in the emergency Gulf-European ministerial virtual meeting of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the Foreign Ministers of the European Union (EU) states, along with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
According to Qatar News Agency, discussions during the meeting focused on the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on GCC states and the dangerous developments in the region, which have a negative impact on the entire world. During the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Qatari territory. He also condemned Iranian attacks on GCC countries and other nations, affirming Qatar's full solidarity with these countries in all measures they take to preserve their sovereignty, security, and stability.
His Excellency emphasized that the Iranian aggression against Qatari territory constitutes a violation of its national sovereignty and is inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness. He noted that Qatar has always been keen to distance itself from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community. However, the renewed targeting of its territory threatens the foundation of understanding upon which bilateral relations between the two countries are built.
His Excellency stressed the necessity of an immediate cessation of all escalatory actions, a return to the negotiating table, prioritizing reason and wisdom, and working to contain the crisis in a manner that preserves the security of the region.
