Qatar Chamber Engages in 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva

Geneva: Qatar Chamber is actively participating in the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference, which is taking place in Geneva and will continue until June 12. This significant event sees the collaboration of representatives from governments, employers, and workers across 187 member states of the Organisation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatar Chamber's delegation is comprised of Eng. Nasser Ahmed Al Meer, Advisor to the Chairman of Qatar Chamber for Labour Affairs and the employers' representative in Qatar; Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Director of the Legal Affairs Department; and Hamad Ali Al Marri, Director of the Committees and Business Councils Affairs Department. Eng. Nasser Al Meer commended the International Labour Organization's initiatives in promoting economic development, social justice, and decent work. He highlighted the necessity of developing human capital and future skills in the face of rapid technological advancements and digital transformation, which are crucial for sustaining economic growth and enhancing labour market competitiveness.

Al Meer remarked on the emergence of new professions due to digital transformation, urging employers to modernise work environments and embrace innovative solutions to address future labour market challenges and mitigate unemployment risks. He expressed Qatar Chamber's appreciation for the government's efforts in promoting international cooperation, exchanging expertise and best practices, and reinforcing social dialogue among the three production parties. This is particularly important as digital transformation and artificial intelligence are leveraged to support sustainable development and create decent job opportunities for all.

Moreover, Al Meer reaffirmed Qatar Chamber's commitment to ILO principles and expressed support for the Palestinian people. He called on the international community to intensify efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian workers, particularly in Gaza, ensuring their right to work and a decent life.
