Geneva: The State of Qatar has expressed its stance that the current lack of accountability and impunity has emboldened Israel to perpetuate further violations and offenses against the Palestinian people. Qatar has called upon the international community to implement necessary measures to halt these transgressions, ensuring accountability for those responsible, and compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to adhere to international law. Qatar emphasized the importance of restoring all inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and fully sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration was made by Her Excellency Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva. She delivered the statement during her participation in an interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, as part of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council.
Her Excellency highlighted the report's findings, which pointed to the seizure, theft, and destruction of Palestinian Islamic and Christian cultural and religious sites by Israeli occupation forces and settlers. She also noted the deliberate targeting of educational facilities, particularly in the Gaza Strip, including UNRWA schools, despite clear communication of their locations and the absence of military targets. These actions, she stated, constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian and human rights laws.
Dr. Al Muftah further asserted that Israel's actions are part of a broader strategy to erase the Palestinian identity and existence, displacing the population and depriving Palestinian youth of education, while expanding Israeli settlements. She concluded by welcoming members of the International Commission of Inquiry and expressing gratitude for their continued efforts.
