Qatar Engages in Key Discussions at Arab Agricultural Development Meeting


Cairo: Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, participated in the 58th Executive Council of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), which commenced today in Cairo, Egypt. The Qatari delegation was led by Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs, Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani, alongside representatives from other member states. The meeting focused on major agricultural issues, enhancing food security across the Arab world, and evaluating the progress of various agricultural development strategies and initiatives.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Executive Council reviewed the Director-General’s report on the organization’s achievements from May to December 2024. This included an assessment of the progress made in implementing regional agricultural strategies, advancing the agricultural sector, and improving food security efforts in the region.



The agenda further involved a review of the Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy for 2030, assessing its progress in the first half of its implementation. Additionally, discussions were held on the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Food Security and the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Rangeland Management (2020-2040).



Other topics addressed included the advancement of the Arab Aquaculture Strategy (2017-2037), strengthening Arab networks to address challenges such as droughts and sandstorms, and supporting regional technical projects.



The sessions also explored the organization’s initiative on managing carbon credit utilization and the action plan for transforming food systems. This involves supporting entrepreneurship platforms and incorporating modern technologies and artificial intelligence in agriculture, aiming to achieve agricultural sustainability and boost productivity in member states.
