Qatar News Agency: A Pioneering Digital Media Transformation

Doha: Qatar News Agency (QNA) has undergone a significant digital transformation over the past 51 years, primarily driven by advancements in digital translation technologies and smart systems. These technologies have enabled the agency to translate news instantly into multiple languages, broadening its global reach.

According to Qatar News Agency, the agency initially launched its news services in English, French, German, and Spanish. It later expanded to include Russian, Hindi, and Urdu, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance its multilingual capabilities. AI has been pivotal in QNA's technological development, aiding in translation, content production, report preparation, data analysis, and the development of digital services.

Key elements of QNA's digital transformation include the use of AI in multilingual translation, the introduction of a smart virtual assistant on its website and applications, and the development of digital tools for news report preparation. The agency has also ventured into AI-generated videos and visual content, alongside developing interactive digital services to improve user access to news.

QNA's digital transformation plan also saw the launch of modern electronic applications for smartphones, enabling real-time news access through advanced interactive interfaces. The agency has introduced new digital services, such as audio and video content, and features dedicated to people with disabilities, ensuring news accessibility for all segments of society.

The QNA website has seen continuous updates, including design enhancements, faster browsing speeds, multimedia integration, and the activation of AI tools and digital assistants. Social media platforms have become integral to QNA's operations, with digital platforms now playing a key role in news production and distribution.

QNA has adopted advanced digital strategies to produce interactive content suitable for modern platforms, including infographics, short videos, and live coverage. Digital analytics and interaction measurement systems have improved content development by providing insights into audience interests and enhancing publishing and distribution tactics.

The agency has fortified its technological path through partnerships with global companies specializing in technology and AI, focusing on digital infrastructure development. The agency has also focused on human resource training to keep pace with digital transformations, launching the "QNA Training Center" in 2023. This center offers specialized programs in AI, digital journalism, fact-checking, and multi-platform content production.

By the end of 2025, the training center had graduated hundreds of trainees, with 425 graduates in 2025 alone, and a total of 1,109 beneficiaries of its programs by the end of 2024. The center has also formed partnerships with media and academic institutions like Xinhua News Agency and Al Jazeera Media Institute for experience exchange and skill development.

QNA's development extends globally, participating in major international technological and media events, such as Web Summit Qatar and the Global AI Summit, where it presents its latest digital technologies and AI solutions. The agency has launched a unified application for GCC news agencies, supported by AI, reflecting a trend towards Gulf media integration.

QNA has also strengthened its international network with global news agencies and media organizations, aiming to exchange content and expertise while expanding its international presence.
