Cairo: The State of Qatar participated in the 97th session of the Conference of Liaison Officers of the Arab Regional Offices on Boycott of Israel, which took place at the General Secretariat of the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. Maryam Ahmed Al Shaibi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League, led the Qatari delegation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference addressed various issues concerning the Arab boycott of Israel. This included discussions on the enforcement of bans, the inclusion of companies on the boycott register, and the issuance of warnings or removal of companies from the blacklist based on their compliance with boycott regulations.
The conference focused on the operationalization of regional boycott offices across Arab nations, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination, cooperation, and information exchange among these offices. The delegates stressed the importance of banning companies that violate boycott rules, specifically those involved in investments within colonial settlements or supporting the Israeli economy and military.
Additionally, the conference decided to issue formal notifications to certain companies, urging them to divest from activities linked to the colonial-settler regime and to cease any cooperation, in line with the boycott's established provisions. Strengthening the role of Arab boycott mechanisms and increasing follow-up on their enforcement efforts through coordination with the Central Boycott Office were also key points of discussion.
The participants expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement Against Israel and global solidarity movements. They emphasized the importance of reinforcing collaboration between the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to advance Islamic boycott mechanisms.
The conference, which included delegations from Arab nations and an OIC representative, reiterated the call for all nations, institutions, firms, and individuals to cease engagement with Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territories. This includes prohibiting the importation of their products or investment in them due to violations of international law.
