Doha: Al-Arab newspaper has highlighted Qatar's steadfast commitment to Lebanon and its people, emphasizing its role in fostering stability and development in the region. The editorial underscored Qatar's continued support in light of recent events, including a phone call made by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi to HE Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon Dr. Tarek Mitri. The call reiterated Qatar's support for Lebanon and condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks and the expansion of Israeli military operations into southern Lebanon.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Arab stressed the urgency of halting the Israeli assaults and adhering to the ceasefire agreement, as well as implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 fully. The newspaper called on the international community to take decisive action to stop Israeli violations and respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Qatar's support for Lebanon extends beyond political backing, encompassing economic, developmental, and humanitarian aid, including support for the Lebanese Armed Forces by funding military salaries, supplying fuel, and providing vehicles to bolster army capabilities.
In a related editorial, Al-Watan newspaper criticized the international community's silence on what it described as the horrific crimes committed by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon. The paper highlighted the use of starvation, intimidation, and terror tactics against civilians as violations of international humanitarian law, which aims to limit the impacts of armed conflicts on non-combatants. Al-Watan pointed out that despite the existence of international conventions and legal frameworks like the Hague Conventions, Geneva Conventions, and the Rome Statute, Israel continues to target civilians and infrastructure without facing accountability.
The editorial concluded by condemning the international community's apparent indifference to these violations, suggesting a grave breach of agreed international norms and laws. The paper stressed that such inaction is evident when the aggressor is Israel and the victims are Arabs.
Meanwhile, The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, highlighted Qatar's proactive measures to protect its workforce from rising temperatures. The Ministry of Labour has implemented a ban on outdoor work between 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM, effective from today until September 15th. This annual measure reflects Qatar's commitment to improving labor conditions and ensuring occupational safety. The newspaper noted that this policy is part of broader labor market reforms aimed at enhancing living conditions and protecting the health and well-being of workers, particularly in sectors like construction and agriculture.
