Qatar Secures Silver in Men’s Team Trap at Asian Shotgun Championships

Doha: The Qatari national team claimed the silver medal in the men's team trap event on the ninth and penultimate day of the Asian Shotgun Championships (Doha 2026), held at the Lusail Shooting Complex. According to Qatar News Agency, the championships will conclude tomorrow, with 196 male and female shooters from 17 countries participating. The Qatari team, made up of shooters Saeed Abu Sharib, Mohammed Al Rumaihi, and Angelo Scalzone, secured the silver medal by finishing second with a total score of 352 targets across five rounds. The Kuwaiti team, featuring Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, Nasser Al Muqallad, and Khaled Al Mudhaf, clinched the gold medal with a score of 354 targets. Meanwhile, the UAE team, consisting of Yahya Al-Muhairi, Waleed Al-Aryani, and Mohammed Al Maktoum, took the bronze with 351 targets. In the men's individual trap shooting competition, Pakistani shooter Muhammad Farooq Nadeem won the gold medal and set new Asian and world records by hitting 27 out of 30 targets. Kazakhstan's Maksym Baydarov earned the silver with 26 targets, while Kuwait's Abdulrahman Al Faihan took the bronze with 20 targets. In the women's individual trap shooting competition, Chinese Taipei's Wan-Yu Liu won gold and set new records with 24 out of 30 targets. Kazakhstan's Ilyinova Ibragimova secured silver with 23 targets, and China's Shen-Yu Fan took bronze with 17 targets. Kazakhstan won the women's team trap competition with 235 targets, earning the gold medal. Chinese Taipei followed with 316 targets for the silver, and Kuwait finished third with 315 points for the bronze. At the award ceremony, HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana, HE Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar Roshan Sithara Khan Azard, Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, and Secretary General of the Kuwaiti and Arab Shooting Federations Obaid Manahi Al Osaimi presented the medals. The championship concludes on Wednesday with the mixed team trap shooting competition. Obaid Manahi Al Osaimi praised the results, noting that they demonstrate the development of Arab shooting. He congratulated the Qatari, Kuwaiti, and Emirati teams on their achievements. Masoud Al Athba, Head of the Trap Department for the Qatari national team, emphasized that the silver medal was the result of strategic planning and hard work. He highlighted the technical success of the current championship, evidenced by the records set at the Lusail International Arenas.
