Qatar Shines at Islamic Solidarity Games with 11 Medals

Riyadh: The Qatari delegation concluded their impressive performance at the sixth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, securing a total of 11 medals, including 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze. The Games, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, wrapped up with a grand closing ceremony at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University Stadium. According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari athletes kicked off their medal tally with a silver medal in swimming, achieved by Ali Tamer in the men's 100-meter freestyle event. The highlight of the delegation's performance was weightlifter Wissal Khalef, who clinched three gold medals in the women's over-86 kg category, contributing significantly to Qatar's overall success. Qatar's medal streak continued with equestrian Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani, who claimed a silver medal in the show jumping competition. Adding to the tally, fencer Khalid Al Yafei secured a bronze in the men's foil event, while wrestler Shaheen Mohammed earned a bronze in the 77kg weight class. The Qatari basketball team further bolstered the medal count by winning bronze in the 3x3 basketball tournament. The athletes wrapped up their participation in the Games with additional accolades, including a silver medal in the men's team foil event in fencing, a bronze in handball, and a bronze in the 800m race secured by Abubaker Haydar in athletics. Turkiye emerged as the dominant force in the Games, topping the medal standings with a total of 155 medals, comprising 72 gold, 44 silver, and 39 bronze. Uzbekistan followed in second place with 96 medals, while Iran claimed the third spot with 81 medals. Host nation Saudi Arabia finished fourth, and Egypt completed the top five in the standings. The sixth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games featured over 3,000 athletes from 57 countries, competing across 23 sports, including athletics, fencing, swimming, and more. Qatar's delegation, consisting of 82 athletes, participated in 16 sports, showcasing their talents in various disciplines and contributing t o the nation's commendable medal haul.
