Qatar University Launches Smart Mobility App ‘Masar’ for Campus Navigation

Doha:Qatar University: Qatar University (QU) has introduced Masar, a smart mobility app aimed at streamlining travel to and around the campus, making QU the first institution in Qatar to offer such a dedicated application. This app leverages technology and real-time data to assist users in navigating the campus efficiently.

According to Qatar News Agency, Masar employs AI-powered cameras and sensors to deliver real-time updates on traffic conditions, entry gates, and parking availability. It also provides alerts on congestion and details about university bus routes and schedules. The campus welcomes around 200,000 vehicles each week, making these features particularly useful.

Dr. Mai Al Naemi, Vice President of Administration and Financial Affairs at QU, highlighted that Masar is part of the university's strategy to enhance student experiences through technology. The app aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, focusing on improving life quality and promoting sustainable development by integrating smart solutions into campus life.

Dr. Mohammed Elshafie, Associate Vice President for Operations Support and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, noted that the app's development was influenced by the needs of the university community and daily travel habits. Students were actively involved in testing and developing Masar. This initial launch is the first phase, with plans to add features and solutions for better campus mobility.

The implementation of Masar is part of broader improvements at QU, including expanded parking, the QU Campus Express, connections to the Doha Metro, student housing shuttles, accessible transport services, and air-conditioned waiting areas.

Through initiatives like Masar, Qatar University aims to foster a culture of safe and responsible travel, encouraging the community to plan ahead, use transport services wisely, observe speed limits, prioritize pedestrian safety, and avoid distractions while driving.
