Qatari Newspapers Address Economic Resilience and Geopolitical Tensions

Doha: Qatari newspapers focused their Sunday editorials on various significant topics, both local and international. They emphasized Qatar's robust economy, which is well-equipped to navigate global changes due to its solid foundations and strategic diversification plans. The shift towards developing non-hydrocarbon sectors has become a long-term strategy for Qatar, aiming to expand its economic base, develop industrial and service sectors, and enhance the digital economy and smart solutions.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also condemned the recent Iranian attacks on properties of fraternal countries, specifically the missile attack on the Emirati ADNOC tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar viewed this as a blatant violation of international law and maritime freedom, as well as a breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The editorials also highlighted Qatar's active international participation through the International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya). They stressed Qatar's commitment to disaster and humanitarian crisis response and efforts to strengthen national search, rescue, and emergency capabilities.

Al-Raya newspaper underscored the Qatari economy's resilience amidst global supply chain challenges and energy market fluctuations. The move towards non-hydrocarbon sector development, Al-Raya noted, is reflected in the 2025 Financial Stability Review by Qatar Central Bank, which indicates diversified growth and expanding non-hydrocarbon activities.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper criticized the Iranian attacks on maritime assets in the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating Qatar's strong condemnation and rejection of using the strait as a pressure tool. The newspaper emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and highlighted Qatar's support for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

Al-Sharq concluded by stating that the Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical test for regional and international capabilities to manage escalation, urging for dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law.
