Doha: Qatari newspapers addressed several prominent local and international issues in their Sunday editorials. Most notable was Qatar's reaffirmation of its unwavering stance, since the beginning of the US-Iran crisis and the escalation of regional tensions, against any steps that would deepen the conflict or threaten the region's security and stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, in Arab affairs, the newspapers condemned the escalating attacks in the occupied West Bank, revealing that Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people go beyond the Gaza Strip through settler attacks and systematic violence against civilians that undermine Palestinian rights.
Locally, the newspapers highlighted the 56th anniversary of Qatar Television, which began broadcasting on August 15, 1970. Since then, it has been a cornerstone of national media, a platform that has accompanied the nation's journey and documented its development and transformations.
Al-Watan stated that from the outset of the crisis between the US and Iran, Qatar called for de-escalation in the region, reaffirming its unwavering stance against any steps that would deepen the conflict or threaten the region's security and stability. It continues to coordinate with various regional and international partners, including the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, to achieve a lasting truce and foster an atmosphere of security and stability.
In this context, the newspaper pointed out that the State of Qatar exerted all possible diplomatic efforts to reach a diplomatic end to this war through the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the US and Iran. This memorandum was intended to put the two countries on the path to ending the war and reaching a final settlement on their outstanding issues before the situation erupted again. In any case, the memorandum remains in place and constitutes an important foundation for an agreement that would allow for ending this conflict and containing its repercussions in a way that preserves the interests of the region, its countries, and the world at large, given the impact of these events on the global economy.
Al-Watan concluded by saying that one of the lessons learned from this conflict is the importance of reassessing the regional security system in the Gulf region in line with the strategic interests of our six countries.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al-Sharq stated that escalating attacks in the occupied West Bank reveal that Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people continue today through settler attacks and systematic violence against civilians, reflecting an Israeli approach that seeks to impose a new reality on the ground and undermine Palestinian rights.
The newspaper pointed out that these attacks come at a time when efforts should be focused on establishing peace in Gaza by implementing the peace plan. However, the Israeli government continues to deliberately obstruct its implementation, threatening to keep the region in a cycle of tension and instability, undermining the chances of establishing a Palestinian state.
Al-Sharq added that the continuation of these practices sends a dangerous message: Israel continues to rely on force and impose a fait accompli, rather than committing to political solutions.
The newspaper emphasized that, given this reality, it has become imperative for the international community to assume its responsibilities in confronting Israeli violations, working to stop them, holding those responsible accountable, providing protection for the Palestinian people, and preventing the continuation of the policy of impunity.
Al-Sharq concluded by reiterating Qatar's position that true peace cannot be achieved by ignoring Palestinian rights or imposing a fait accompli, but rather through ending the war and attacks, implementing the peace process, and ultimately establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
