Doha: Qatari newspapers have strongly condemned the recent Iranian missile attack targeting Qatar and four other Gulf countries, characterizing it as an aggressive attempt to draw peaceful nations into conflict with Israel and the United States.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials emphasized that the attack, which involved Iranian missiles targeting Qatari territory, represents a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and international law. The newspapers highlighted that such actions stand in stark contrast to the principles of good neighborliness that Qatar has consistently championed.
The editorials described the incident as an unacceptable act of aggression against the national sovereignty of Qatar and the affected Gulf nations. They also noted the outpouring of international support for Qatar, with numerous world leaders and heads of state contacting HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to express solidarity and condemnation of the Iranian actions. This, the papers argued, reflects Qatar's esteemed status and its vital role in promoting regional and international peace and security.
Al-Sharq, in its editorial, criticized Iran for making what it termed a grave strategic error by targeting Qatar and other Gulf states for the first time in the region's history. The newspaper contended that Iran's actions are not only an attack on Qatar's sovereignty but also a breach of international law and the principles of good neighborliness. Qatar, the editorial pointed out, has consistently worked to facilitate dialogue and negotiation involving Iran, the United States, and the broader international community.
The editorial further stated that Qatar remains committed to fostering international security and avoiding regional conflicts. The paper underscored that Iran's actions are unjustifiable and highlighted the international communications received by HH the Amir, which underscore Qatar's credibility and leadership in promoting peace.
Al-Sharq dismissed Iranian claims of targeting US bases as baseless, noting that while Qatar has not allowed its territory to be used for attacks on Iran, the region is home to numerous US military assets. The editorial lauded the Qatari Armed Forces for successfully intercepting 63 Iranian missiles and 11 drones, preventing any fatalities but resulting in injuries to eight civilians from falling debris, with one in serious condition. The newspaper attributed this success to the skill and dedication of the Qatari military personnel in defending the nation.
