Doha: Qatari newspapers addressed, in their editorials on Tuesday, several local and international issues. Among them was Qatar's continued efforts with its brotherly and friendly partner countries to support diplomatic initiatives and dialogue aimed at preventing the region from sliding into a comprehensive confrontation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers highlighted the two separate phone calls held by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani with HH Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, and Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, regarding mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.
On the domestic front, the newspapers praised the launch of the smart digital application "Minbar", which reflects the mission of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) and its efforts to harness technology and artificial intelligence in support of religious outreach, enhancing the impact of religious discourse and reinforcing Islamic values in society through modern approaches.
The newspapers also highlighted the opening of the second Qatar-Korea Artificial Intelligence Forum, held under the theme "New Horizons and Business Opportunities." The forum is organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Doha and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), to strengthen cooperation and expand partnership opportunities between the two countries.
Al Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that the military confrontation between Israel and Iran over the past few hours reflects the fragility of the regional situation as concerns about a possible escalation remain high, despite the announcement of the end of this round of tensions. Still, mutual threats by Israel and Iran to resort to military action again continue, as well as the unjustified Iranian attacks against some Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
As part of coordinating efforts to support mediation aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held two phone calls with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia HH Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. HE stressed the importance of all parties responding positively to the ongoing mediation efforts, in a way that would create an opportunity to address the root causes of the crisis through peaceful means and dialogue, leading to a lasting agreement that would prevent a renewed escalation, the newspaper noted.
Al Sharq concluded by saying that Qatar spares no effort in supporting all initiatives aimed at containing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that would help strengthen security and stability, and achieve lasting peace in the region.
On the same note, Al Watan stated in its editorial that Qatar continues its constructive efforts to reduce tensions in a way that contributes to enhancing regional security and stability. It added that the success of the current diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement that promotes stability requires cooperation from all parties to the ongoing mediation efforts. This would help address the root causes of the crisis through peaceful means and dialogue, while ensuring that any future agreement takes into account the security concerns of the Gulf states, thereby strengthening Arab national security, regional stability, and international peace and security as a whole.
Qatar's position has been clear since the first day of the war: the conflict must end through diplomatic means. This reflects a consistent and principled stance that Qatar adopts toward all conflicts around the world, Al-Watan noted. The newspaper warned that the current escalation on multiple fronts will not lead to any meaningful outcome on the ground. Therefore, the best hope for all sides is to act wisely and return to diplomacy and dialogue.
