Qatari Newspapers Highlight Support for UNRWA and Diplomatic Efforts in Gaza Ceasefire

Doha: In their Sunday editorials, Qatari newspapers focused on Qatar's reaffirmation of its political, diplomatic, and financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the ongoing efforts of Qatari diplomacy to implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya newspaper emphasized Qatar's international commitments and its firm stance in supporting the Palestinian people. The State of Qatar continues to back UNRWA, an agency essential for addressing the humanitarian needs of Palestinian refugees. Qatar was the first Arab country to sign a multi-year agreement with UNRWA in 2018 and remains one of the agency's largest supporters, a fact acknowledged by UNRWA Spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna, who commended Qatar's significant role.

Al-Raya highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by UNRWA since its establishment in 1949, with numerous attacks aimed at undermining its operations and the Palestinian refugees' right to return, as guaranteed by international law and UN resolutions. The newspaper warned of the severe consequences should support for UNRWA cease, given the assistance it provides to millions of Palestinian refugees.

Al-Sharq newspaper underscored the importance of Qatari mediation in ending the conflict in Gaza and implementing the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange. Despite the complexities of the situation, Qatari diplomacy is actively involved in ensuring the agreement's success. Qatar has played a central role in officially securing the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and is committed to fostering peace and reconstruction in Gaza.

Al-Sharq also addressed Qatar's rejection of any proposals for the forcible displacement of Palestinians, warning that such actions would obstruct peace efforts and reignite regional conflicts. The newspaper affirmed that sustainable peace can only be achieved by granting Palestinians sovereignty over their lands.
