Qatari Swimming Team Claims Historic Gold and Bronze at Asian Aquatics Championships

Ahmedabad: The Qatari swimming team achieved a significant milestone by securing two medals-a gold and a bronze-at the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships in Ahmedabad, India. The event, featuring various aquatic sports, will continue until October 11.

According to Qatar News Agency, swimmer Ali Tamer captured Qatar's first-ever gold medal in the history of its participation in the championship by winning the 50m freestyle event with a time of 22.45 seconds. In addition to Tamer's historic achievement, swimmer Mohammed Mahmoud earned a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke, clocking in at 28.09 seconds.

The Qatari team, represented by four athletes-Ali Tamer, Mohammed Mahmoud, Hamza Shalaan, and Abdullah Al Ghamri-competed against participants from 25 countries. The championships feature events in swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming.
