QFSW and AOPD Collaborate to Support Disability Rights in Arab World

Doha: The Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arab Organization of Persons with Disabilities (AOPD) to bolster efforts in promoting the rights and empowerment of individuals with disabilities across the Arab world. The agreement was formalized by QFSW CEO Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Nuaimi and AOPD President Dr. Nawaf Kabbara during the Second World Summit for Social Development, which concluded in Doha.

According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU aims to foster cooperation through the exchange of expertise and the implementation of joint initiatives. Al Nuaimi highlighted the importance of this agreement as a step forward in advancing Arab collaboration on disability empowerment. He noted that it signifies QFSW's dedication to forming effective partnerships with regional organizations to advocate for disability rights and societal inclusion.

Dr. Kabbara, representing the AOPD, which includes 16 Arab nations, emphasized the MoU's goal to enhance training and development programs focused on disability rights. He underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts at national, regional, and international levels to shift the focus from mere care to rights-based empowerment.

In related developments, the CEO of QFSW engaged in discussions with Dr. Mohammed bin Hassan Al Obaidli, Director of the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs of GCC countries, and the Community Development Authority in Dubai. These talks centered on enhancing regional cooperation and knowledge sharing among Gulf social work institutions.
