QRCS Launches Ophthalmology Convoy in Khartoum to Combat Blindness

Khartoum: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a medical convoy to treat eye diseases in Khartoum, Sudan, as part of the 'Noor' anti-blindness project implemented in partnership with the Al-Basar International Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Health (MOH).

According to Qatar News Agency, the medical convoy involves eye examinations, eyeglasses, medications, and cataract surgeries, for the benefit of more than 4,000 patients in Karary District, Khartoum State. Director of General Projects Department at the Al-Basar International Foundation Dr. Amir Abu Groun said QRCS was the first organization to reach out to Karary and provide ophthalmology eye disease treatment and surgery services, which had been suspended for two years due to the war.

Dr. Abu Groun emphasized that there are numerous people in dire need of such free-of-charge services, amid the current circumstances. He thanked QRCS for their efforts and services for the people of Sudan.

Head of QRCS office in Sudan Dr. Salah Daak explained that QRCS had already completed three medical convoys to treat eye diseases over the past three months in Al-Qadarif and Red Sea States. With the latest medical convoy in Khartoum, the total number of beneficiaries from the four medical convoys is up to 12,000.

"Despite the current challenges and war conditions, QRCS reached out to the beneficiaries in Khartoum, in order to meet the urgent need for medical services and treatment of eye diseases in Karary," he added.
