Royal Commission for AlUla to Kick off Dates Season Tomorrow

The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has completed its preparations for the launching of this year's dates season in AlUla tomorrow until November 9, in partnership with several government and private agencies. The season represents a significant economic tributary for the governorate. It provides an opportunity for farmers to display their date products to buyers and investors from inside and outside the Kingdom. The season will start with a date auction on Fridays and Saturdays for nine weeks, followed by the opening of the weekly market at the farmers market headquarters during October and November. The dates season is included in the map of the agriculture sector's activities in 2024 for fresh produce, which began with the summer fruit season in July and will end with the citrus season next January. This year, the market is witnessing a new addition by hosting interactive sessions with elite chefs to highlight AlUla's rich heritage and explore innovative ways to use dates to make varied products and dishes. AlUla yields various types of dates, including distinctive types such as Medjoul and Ambara. Last year's dates season saw 600 farmers participate and make sales of SAR13 million. At the same time, 113,000 tons of dates were produced from more than 3 million date palm trees that year, extending over 10,000 hectares in the region. RCU affirms its commitment to supporting farmers through programs, workshops, and training courses that encourage sustainable practices and increase productivity, thereby achieving economic development through the agricultural sector.
