Doha: South Korea, the United States, and Japan will conduct trilateral military exercises from Sep. 7 to 11, the countries announced today.
According to Qatar News Agency, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a statement revealing that the Freedom Edge exercise will occur off South Korea's southern coast. The primary objective of the exercise is to counter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats while safeguarding regional peace and stability.
The upcoming drills follow a recent decision by Seoul and Washington to halve the scale of their bilateral Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise. This decision was made after US President Donald Trump instructed a reduction in the scale of the exercise last week. The Freedom Edge exercises have been previously conducted in June and November 2024, as well as in September 2025.
