Riyadh: The Saudi Foreign Ministry welcomed the Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2817, which condemns in the strongest terms the egregious attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the territories of the Gulf States and Jordan, and determines that such acts constitute a breach of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry expressed approval of the resolution's provisions, which include condemnation of the attacks on residential areas and the targeting of civilian objects, leading to civilian casualties and damage to buildings. The statement highlighted Saudi Arabia's solidarity with the affected countries and their people.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized the international support the resolution garnered and the widespread condemnations of the Iranian attacks. It called for an immediate and unconditional cessation of such acts and an end to any provocations or threats against neighboring States, including the use of proxies.
The statement further clarified that Saudi Arabia affirms the content of the resolution and retains its right to take necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as recognized by Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
