Seoul: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Cho Hyun emphasized the critical importance of achieving a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, declaring it an "imperative" that should never be forsaken. He committed to ensuring that the region does not escalate into a focal point for armed conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, during his keynote speech at the Seoul Diplomacy Forum 2025, organized by the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, Minister Cho outlined the government's strategic objective of progressive denuclearization of the peninsula. This strategy involves initially halting North Korea's nuclear development, subsequently reducing its nuclear stockpile, and ultimately achieving complete disarmament.
Minister Cho further highlighted South Korea's plans to bolster its defense capabilities in the face of threats from North Korea. He emphasized that these military enhancements must be paired with initiatives aimed at preventing accidental conflicts, lowering tensions, and reviving dialogue with Pyongyang.
Moreover, the minister underscored the necessity of avoiding the deepening of opposing blocs within the region. He committed to promoting trilateral collaboration among South Korea, the United States, and Japan, as well as among South Korea, China, and Japan, to reinforce regional stability.
