Samarkand: Tajikistan and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a memorandum of understanding to finance transport projects within the framework of the Global Gateway initiative, during the first EU-Central Asia Summit in Samarkand.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was signed by Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Muhriddin and EIB Vice President Kyriakos Kakouris. It aims to enhance sustainable connectivity between Central Asia and Europe through infrastructure modernization and expanding access to transport services, as reported by Tajikistan’s AKIpress News Agency.
The memorandum allocates EUR 100 million to finance transport projects in Tajikistan, enhancing regional integration and economic development. The EIB affirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable regional connectivity projects.
Tajik Transport Minister Azim Ibrahim emphasized the importance of developing and technically equipping border crossings, which will contribute to improving the efficiency of trade and people movement. He praised the EU’s role in supporting green development projects and digital transformation in the region.
