Tunisian Analysts to QNA: HH the Amir’s UN Speech Reflects Pillars of Qatari Policies

Tunis: Tunisian political experts and analysts praised the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, saying it reflected Qatar's consistent policy of dialogue and its call for comprehensive solutions that end human suffering and strengthen stability in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, they said HH the Amir's address highlighted the State of Qatar's pivotal role as a key player in regional and international efforts to establish peace and security. Political analyst Mohamed Bouaoud noted that the speech reaffirmed the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to supporting Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue. He added that Doha would continue its mediation and negotiation efforts despite Israeli attempts to derail these initiatives.

Bouaoud explained that the address sent a clear message that the State of Qatar remains determined to act as a diplomatic mediator to achieve peaceful solutions and de-escalation in the region. He stressed that despite the Israeli attack on Doha, the State of Qatar announced from the very beginning that it would persist in supporting mediation and negotiations and would not abandon a role in which it has already accomplished much, an approach backed by the United States, Egypt, and other regional states.

International relations expert and political analyst Mourad Allala said HH the Amir's speech was marked by restraint, realism, and strong reasoning, offering what he described as an accountability check for Israel, which has violated international norms and laws and ignored the fundamentals of diplomatic relations. He pointed out that the address highlighted how the Israeli government disregarded even the most basic ethical standards by attacking the Qatari capital, which has been making sustained mediation efforts that had already produced positive results before Israel resumed its war on Gaza.

Allala added that the speech dismantled Israeli myths, such as the claim of being the region's only democracy or a genuine seeker of peace, and underscored Israel's disregard for good-neighborly relations and its pursuit of regional dominance. The speech also showcased the strength of Qatar's diplomacy and foreign policy, and its active regional and international role in issues such as Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon.

Tunisian political analyst Bassam Hamdi said the Amir's speech carried multiple messages, the most important of which was that the Israeli attack on Doha and the targeting of Hamas leaders had failed to derail the negotiations or deter the State of Qatar from its mediating role. He viewed the State of Qatar's insistence on continuing the negotiations as a clear signal to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the negotiation track remains alive and that the attack on Qatar's sovereignty did not achieve its malicious goals, including sabotaging the talks and prolonging the war in Gaza.

Hamdi added that the address also conveyed a pointed message to mediators, especially the United States, urging a return to the negotiating table and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as the best path to a peaceful resolution, emphasizing that the law of the jungle would lead nowhere. He concluded that HH the Amir's speech underlined the impossibility of the so-called Greater Israel project and addressed other key international and regional issues, including Syria and Lebanon, while stressing the need to support peace efforts across the region.
