Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that the Palestinian side has demonstrated a constructive approach in advancing the peace process in Gaza, while Israel is failing to fulfill its obligations and does not believe in the fundamental objectives of the ceasefire. This came during a joint press conference today with his Romanian counterpart, Iona Toiu, in Ankara.
According to Qatar News Agency, Fidan explained that the efforts exerted to return all prisoners and bodies to Israel are among the most prominent indicators of the Palestinian side's constructive stance. He added that Israel continues to fail in delivering humanitarian aid, with trucks not reaching Gaza and the basic needs of Palestinians remaining unmet.
Fidan emphasized Turkey's rejection of the continuation of this situation, reiterating the call for urgent measures to deliver aid. He noted that a draft resolution on Gaza is to be submitted to the UN Security Council, with Turkiye sharing its views on this draft with relevant parties.
Fidan mentioned that consultations on this issue were held with countries that met US President Donald Trump in New York, transforming these discussions into diplomatic activity. He also confirmed ongoing discussions on Gaza's reconstruction with international partners, expressing hope for initiatives promoting peace and reconstruction.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza, describing the situation as "fragile" due to what he perceives as the Israeli administration's lack of belief in the ceasefire's objectives. Despite this, Fidan praised the Palestinian side's adherence to the ceasefire terms, highlighting their good faith actions.
