Turkish President: Country on Verge of Major Economic Leap


Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that Turkiye is on the verge of a significant economic leap, with regional developments expected to pave the way and accelerate the pace of this leap.



According to Qatar News Agency, in a speech during his participation in the 8th congress of the Justice and Development Party in Ankara, Erdogan highlighted that Turkiye has become the world leader in drone production and ranks 11th globally in defense industry exports.



He also noted that Turkiye’s share of the global economy has risen from 0.7 percent to 1.1 percent, and that the value-added industrial products have increased from USD 95 billion to USD 320 billion.



Erdogan added that in 2023, Turkiye became the fourth-largest economy in Europe and the 11th-largest globally in terms of purchasing power.



Regarding the tourism sector, he stated that they have climbed to fourth place in Europe and fifth globally in tourism, mentioning that Turkiye hosted over 62 million tourists last year and generated more than USD 61 billion in tourism revenue.



He also emphasized Turkiye’s significant achievement in attracting foreign investments, pointing out that the country attracted USD 15.1 billion in investments until 2002, with the figure surpassing USD 272 billion over the past 22 years.
