Beirut: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Thursday called on all parties to renew their commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, cease violations of it, and avoid actions that could increase tensions amid the Israeli escalation in Lebanon.
According to Qatar News Agency, UNIFIL emphasized that instability served no one's interest and reiterated its call for all parties to comply with Resolution 1701 and cease violating it. The UN force highlighted the importance of avoiding any provocative actions that could escalate tensions or lead to further violations.
UNIFIL noted that civilians were bearing the brunt of the ongoing conflict, with the disruption causing significant impacts on their daily lives. Many families are reportedly facing uncertainty, with some forced to flee their homes due to safety concerns.
The organization stressed that every effort by peacekeepers to reduce tensions, prevent misunderstandings, and keep communication channels open is crucial in preventing further escalation of the conflict.
