UNRWA Urges Uninterrupted Aid to Avert Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated Sunday that an effective and continuous flow of aid is essential to prevent the worsening catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, amid an Israeli blockade that has persisted for nearly three months.

According to Qatar News Agency, the statement was made in an UNRWA post on the X platform, highlighting the severe humanitarian and relief crisis in Gaza since Israel closed the crossings on March 2. UNRWA emphasized that Palestinians in Gaza cannot afford further delays in aid delivery, noting the necessity of 500 to 600 aid trucks per day, managed by the United Nations, to meet urgent needs.

The agency underlined that "uninterrupted flow of aid into Gaza is the only way to prevent the current disaster from spiraling further." Over the 80-day blockade, 58 Palestinians have succumbed to malnutrition, while 242 others have died from lack of food and medicine, with the majority being elderly and children.

The Israeli occupation's blockade has led to systematic starvation of approximately 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza, as aid supplies remain stuck at the border since March 2, plunging the region into famine. Recently, Israel has intensified its military actions in Gaza, initiating a ground invasion in the north and south of the territory.
