The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has expressed grave concerns about reports of mobilization of forces in Tripoli, including the threats to use force to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank of Libya. In a statement issued yesterday, UNSMIL urgently called for immediate de-escalation and restraint, emphasizing that dialogue is the only solution to all issues. "UNSMIL is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to reach a peaceful agreement to resolve the crisis over the Central Bank," the statement disclosed. The Mission reiterated that the display of military power and armed confrontations in densely populated neighbourhoods is unacceptable and threatens civilians' lives and security. These movements are not a viable solution to the current crisis or the prolonged political deadlock but exacerbate the crisis and hinder the possibility of reaching a political solution.
