WCM-Q to Host Second Primary Care Conference Focusing on Clinical Best Practices.

Doha: Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q), a QF partner university, is set to host its second alumni-run primary care conference on November 29 and 30, 2024. The conference aims to present the latest updates in clinical best practices to local family physicians, general practitioners, and primary care doctors. According to Qatar News Agency, the event is coordinated by the Division of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at WCM-Q. It will feature WCM-Q-trained physicians leading dynamic, specialist-led case-based discussions. These discussions will explore cutting-edge evidence and best practices for managing prevalent adult conditions in primary care. The conference will also include several interactive panels and roundtable discussions, offering participants the opportunity to engage deeply with the subject matter. Key topics at the conference will include an integrative session on cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases. This session will focus on shared risk factors, diagnostic tools, and m ultidisciplinary care to enhance patient outcomes. Another session will adopt a multidisciplinary approach to menopause, featuring endocrinologists, gynecologists, and psychiatrists discussing hormonal changes, reproductive and sexual health, and mental health issues, respectively. The conference will also address early diagnosis and screening for cancer, evaluating the risks and benefits of screening while emphasizing effective physician-patient communication. Screening approaches for breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancers will be reviewed, providing case-based updates for participants. A session dedicated to diagnosing and treating hypertension in adults and the elderly will explore pathophysiology, diagnostic tools, and treatment plans aligned with the latest guidelines. Additionally, participants will gain insights into managing conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dementia, life after cancer, and obesity, with essential inputs from neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, and oncology. Othe r topics to be covered include rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, thyroid function testing and management, common cardiac complaints, cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease, and the neurological basis of back pain. Titled 'Updates in Primary Care: Specialist-Led Case-Based Discussions Highlighting the Latest Evidence and Best Clinical Practice - 2024,' the conference is part of WCM-Q's broader initiative to leverage alumni expertise to advance Qatar's healthcare sector, building on the success of the inaugural alumni-led conference in 2023.
