Cairo: The first Arab Forum for Specialized Media in Preservation of Heritage and Cultural Legacy concluded on Thursday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The four-day forum was organized by the Arab Union for Heritage Media.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event brought together media professionals from Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, UAE, Tunisia, and Libya, with the goal of developing a roadmap for journalists focused on heritage, antiquities, and related sectors. The forum aimed to raise awareness and promote the preservation of Arab cultural and historical identity.
Participants shared notable experiences and initiatives from across the Arab world aimed at protecting Arab heritage, through a series of workshops designed to strengthen media efforts in this field.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency, President of the Arab Union for Heritage Media, Dr. Yousef Ali Al Kathem, said the forum provided an in-depth and comprehensive discussion of heritage and antiquities in the Arab world. He announced the launch of the first dedicated Arab heritage media platform, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of heritage and promoting a culture of preservation.
Dr. Al Kathem stressed that the challenges facing heritage preservation in the Arab world require joint efforts and unified strategies. He highlighted the importance of aligning media training programs with the plans of ministries responsible for local heritage, and praised the efforts of Arab countries including Qatar for their strong commitment to preserving cultural and artistic heritage.
Established in 2024, the Arab Union for Heritage Media seeks to promote awareness of Arab heritage, introduce audiences to its roots and history, foster cooperation to protect Arab identity, and support scientific research in the heritage field. The Union also works to safeguard heritage through documentation and wide dissemination, train Arab media professionals in this area, and encourage experience-sharing through conferences and workshops dedicated to heritage media.
