WSTA and Oman Water Society Sign MoU to Enhance Water Research and Training Cooperation

Muscat: The Water Science and Technology Association (WSTA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Oman Water Society (OWS) to foster collaboration in research and training related to water resources, addressing the challenges posed by rapid climate changes.

According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU outlines plans for organizing conferences, seminars, and scientific workshops, alongside implementing professional training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of workers in the water and wastewater sectors across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The initiative aims to build an integrated Gulf system for collaboration in water sciences and technologies, focusing on scientific research and the exchange of expertise.

The WSTA, with a history dating back to the 1980s, has been actively working to tackle the challenges in water resources. Eng. Abdulrahman Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the WSTA's Board of Directors, emphasized the association's commitment to achieving water security and sustainability through enduring solutions and the development of effective capacities. He highlighted the Gulf Water Conference's role in advancing critical recommendations for water resources in the Gulf states.

On behalf of the OWS, Eng. Zahir bin Khalid Al Sulaimani, Chairman of the Board of Directors, expressed that the MoU represents a significant advancement in joint efforts to address water challenges at the Gulf level. OWS, established in April 2010, is the first society in Oman dedicated to water affairs and the second of its kind in the Arab Gulf states.
