Doha: The Excellence Center for Training and Consultation of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI), in collaboration with the Master’s Program in Human Rights at DI, organized a panel discussion on women in academia: reality, challenges, and future directions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the panel discussion addressed a range of topics related to educational and career paths, social roles, and the research domain. It also focused on the importance of women’s participation in advancing academic institutions and highlighting their scholarly contributions. In addition, the discussion went over the key challenges that face women in academia, putting forward proposals and recommendations to strengthen women’s participation and role.
During the seminar, author and consultant on institutional and community development matters, Lolwah Abdullah Al Misned, explored Qatari women’s experience in academic leadership positions, highlighting Qatari women’s progress in this domain, while also pointing out the challenges that persist in some institutional environments.
For her part, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at DI, Dr. Amal Ghazal, addressed the role of women in academia from a research perspective. She emphasized the need to support women’s presence in research environments and to enhance their opportunities in leading scientific projects.
Professor of classical Arabic literature and cultural criticism at Qatar University, Fatma Mohammed Hamid Al Sowaidi, discussed the role of women in academia from an academic perspective. She noted that Arab women education should not be limited to knowledge acquisition, rather it should serve as a pathway to empowerment and change.
