DI Organizes Third Workshop of Independent Media Initiative

Doha: The third workshop of the 'Independent Media Initiative' was launched on Monday at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI). The three-day event is organized by the DI's journalism program in collaboration with the US-based media institutions Al-Monitor and Semafor.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dean of the DI's College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Amal Ghazal, affirmed the DI's openness to global initiatives and expert houses with the aim of exchanging expertise with a variety of academics and occupational institutions. This approach stems from the DI's philosophy and its endeavors to create an exceptional educational and research environment.

For his part, Head of the Journalism Program at DI, Dr. Basim Al Tuwaisi, stated that this initiative intends to transfer the best global practices and expertise in the domain of news coverage and bridge the gap between the events transpiring in newsrooms and the classrooms of media colleges. DI strives to advance an integrated educational environment and transition to a regional hub for excellence in education and practical research in the domains of journalism and media studies, Al Tuwaisi highlighted.

The workshop brings together 40 students from the DI's journalism and media studies programs, alongside students from Qatar University, Doha University, and Northwestern University, with a select group of journalists hailing from global media institutions delivering lectures at this event. In addition, the initiative features a range of training and discussion topics, foremost of which are the tools of digital media, social media for journalists, leveraging artificial intelligence in newsrooms, and entrepreneurship in this domain.

Having been organized following the first workshop held in October 2024, this event is part of the DI's unwavering efforts to advance the capabilities of media practitioners in Qatar and the region. Overall, the initiative demonstrates the institute's commitment to offering exceptional training platforms that aim to augment the educational outcomes in the areas of media and journalism, as well as openness to international expertise.
