Geneva: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the latest round of nuclear negotiations with the United States marked one of the longest and most serious sessions to date, highlighting significant progress.
According to Qatar News Agency, Araghchi spoke to reporters following the talks in Geneva, stating that the discussions lasted about four hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. He emphasized that this was one of the most serious and extended rounds of negotiations, with good progress being achieved.
The talks were conducted indirectly, mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi facilitating the technical discussions. Araghchi highlighted the crucial roles both mediators played in ensuring productive dialogue.
Araghchi noted that both sides engaged in detailed discussions on key elements of a potential agreement, covering nuclear issues and sanctions. Some issues reportedly approached mutual understanding. He added that technical teams from the IAEA will begin reviews on Monday to address specific technical matters, which will then be aligned with the political considerations of both parties. The next round of negotiations is scheduled within a week.
