Isak Included in Sweden Squad Despite Club Absence

Doha: Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has been called up for Sweden's upcoming two 2026 World Cup qualifiers despite lacking any game time this season. Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has selected the 25-year-old for the Slovenia and Kosovo matches due in early September although he is now training away from his team-mates as he pushes for a Liverpool move despite having three years left on his contract.

According to Qatar News Agency, Tomasson justified his decision by stating that the forward can decide matches, and he wants Isak to be part of the squad. A £110m Liverpool offer to sign Isak was rejected in early August, but the Reds have yet to make a fresh bid. Isak accused the Magpies on social media of breaking a promise to let him leave this summer.
