Doha: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), a body under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This agreement is aimed at enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest and addressing contemporary issues.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, stated that the MoU is a crucial step in the Ministry's mission to spread Islamic culture, preserve heritage, and promote religious awareness. He highlighted the IIFA as a strategic partner with significant expertise in jurisprudence, aligning with the Ministry's international cooperation strategy.
Dr. Qutb Mustafa Sano, Secretary-General of the IIFA, remarked that the memorandum reflects the longstanding ties between the IIFA and the Ministry in Qatar. The partnership seeks intellectual and cognitive integration among scholars and aims to provide sound Sharia opinions to support the stability of Islamic societies.
The MoU, set for an initial three-year term and subject to automatic renewal, outlines strategic goals such as disseminating Islamic knowledge, preserving heritage, and tackling intellectual, social, and economic challenges. It also calls for joint scholarly activities, including seminars and conferences, to address contemporary issues.
The agreement also seeks to foster intellectual convergence between scholars of various Islamic schools and specialists in diverse fields. It promotes the exchange of educational resources and publications and aims to broaden participant representation in relevant conferences and seminars.
The signing of the MoU builds on the outcomes of the 26th session of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy Council Conference, held in Doha, which saw extensive participation from scholars and experts. This agreement underscores both parties' commitment to enhancing their scientific and jurisprudential partnership.
