Manama, The Interior Ministry’s Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, made an official visit to Singapore. He was accompanied by the Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Human Resources, Major-General Adel Ameen, and officials.
The visit aimed to learn about strategic planning and the use of scientific technologies in security, as well as the latest developments in security and safety systems and training.
He met the Singaporean Deputy Interior Minister Puah Kak Keong. During the meeting, both sides stressed the significance of developing ties between the two countries. The NPRA Undersecretary hailed the two countries’ bilateral relations and strategic partnership. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise to promote cooperation and serve the best interests of the two friendly countries. The meeting reviewed topics of common interest.
He and the accompanying delegation also visited the Immigration and Checkp
oint Authority in the presence of the Deputy Chief of the Authority, Cora Cheng, where he was briefed on the technologies and systems used to process applications. He also visited the Woodland Port, which links Singapore with Malaysia and an airport, to learn more about the workflow and provided services.
The NPRA Undersecretary met Deputy Cabinet Affairs Minister Amelia Tang to learn about the demographic characteristics and statistics, as well as the Singaporean government’s strategic plans and population policies.
He also visited the science and technology sector of the Singaporean Ministry of the Interior and the ST Engineering Company, specialising in artificial intelligence, where they were briefed on work areas related to border security, cybersecurity, sensing and surveillance.
He and the accompanying delegation also visited the Police Training Academy and the Criminal Investigation School, where he was briefed on the study programmes and training areas, their role in preparing and qualifying polic
e personnel, and modern methods in training and qualifying the workforce to carry out their duty in maintaining security and protecting public safety.
The NPRA Undersecretary pointed to the visit’s success, which represented an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about the best practices in security and safety. He added that such visits and exchanging experiences strengthen joint cooperation, valuing highly the close collaboration with Singapore.
The visit resulted in agreement on several future steps, the most important of which is exchanging experiences, organising mutual visits between the two countries, and agreeing on cooperation in research and development security and safety.
