Qatar and Lebanon Reaffirm Strong Ties During President Aoun’s Visit to Doha


Doha: A joint statement was issued by the State of Qatar and the Republic of Lebanon, marking the official visit of HE President of the Republic of Lebanon General Joseph Aoun to Qatar.



According to Qatar News Agency, the visit, which took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, was in response to an invitation from HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.



The visit underscored the robust fraternal relations and historical ties between the two nations, reflecting a mutual determination to enhance cooperation in various fields. HH the Amir and HE President Aoun held bilateral talks aimed at strengthening and developing their countries’ relations.



During the discussions, both leaders highlighted the strength of their bilateral ties and expressed a shared commitment to advancing these relations for the benefit of their peoples. They emphasized the urgent need to advance Lebanon’s economic reform plans and highlighted the potential for increased cooperation and investment opportunities in diverse fields.



The talks also covered regional and international developments, focusing on enhancing joint Arab action and coordinating positions on key issues. Both leaders stressed the importance of addressing regional matters through dialogue and diplomacy, particularly in southern Lebanon.



On the topic of Arab affairs, the leaders reiterated their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also expressed support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty.



The statement emphasized the national role of the Lebanese Army and the importance of supporting it. HH the Amir announced the renewal of Qatar’s grant to support the Lebanese Army’s salaries, totaling USD 60 million, alongside the provision of 162 military vehicles.



At the end of the visit, HE President Aoun expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, while HH the Amir wished for the continued health and success of President Aoun and prosperity for the Lebanese people.
