Doha: Qatar Charity has allocated an initial $1 million for emergency assistance to Yemeni refugees who have fled their homes amid escalating hostilities. The initiative is a response to the urgent needs of those displaced by ongoing violence and will focus on delivering crucial aid to affected families.
According to Qatar News Agency, the International Organization for Migration reported that violence along Yemen's western coast has displaced over 85,000 people within Yemen and forced more than 2,000 individuals, primarily women and children, to seek refuge in Djibouti. Qatar Charity's emergency assistance package aims to address the immediate basic needs of these refugees, who endured perilous journeys to reach safety on Djibouti's northern coast.
The relief package includes provisions for emergency shelter, essential non-food items, hot meals, and ready-to-eat food assistance. Additionally, it offers safe drinking water, primary healthcare services, and support for water, sanitation, and hygiene services. Nutritional support for mothers and children is also a key component of the aid.
The agency stated that the initiative is designed to fortify support for host areas and communities that are under increasing pressure due to the influx of refugees. The intervention is being executed in coordination with relevant authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable families as swiftly as possible.
