Ramallah – Ma’an – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that the majority of detainees who were recently released from Israeli occupation prisons, in light of the limited releases that took place of administrative detainees and prisoners who completed their sentences, the vast majority of them suffer from health problems, which required the transfer of some of them. They were taken to the hospital immediately after their release, as a result of the harsh detention conditions and a series of systematic policies that the prison administration escalated after October 7th.

She added, “The most prominent of which were the crime of torture, the policy of starvation, and systematic medical crimes, which constitute the most prominent policies pursued by the occupation over many decades, and which caused the martyrdom of prisoners, including detainees who were released after October 7.”

The Prisoners’ Club followed up on a number of testimonies from those who were recently released, and they are in difficult health
conditions, as the majority of them suffered from pain in various parts of their bodies, and health problems that require permanent treatment, and some of them had suffered fractures at the beginning of their detention as a result of severe beatings, and some of them are still suffering. They suffer from clear effects months after their arrest, in addition to the state of weakness, the sharp and clear decrease in their weight, and the change that occurred in their bodies.

The Prisoners’ Club pointed out that the passage of a longer period of time for prisoners and detainees inside prisons, while the current retaliatory measures continue at their current rate, will lead to a worsening of the health conditions of sick prisoners, and cause diseases even for healthy detainees and prisoners, especially since many prisoners who did not previously suffer from diseases and health problems. They have recently begun to suffer from clear health problems, which has imposed difficulty on the institutions specialized in c
ounting the number of patients with the escalation of cases, and the continuation of daily arrest campaigns that have targeted the sick, the wounded, and the elderly, in addition to obstructing the work of legal teams and the ability to follow up on their medical files.

The starvation policy, along with medical crimes, constituted the most prominent policies that caused clear problems for prisoners, specifically in the recent past. We mention here that the martyr Muhammad Ahmad Al-Sabar, who rose in February, was one of the most prominent cases in which the type of food provided to him was a clear reason for his martyrdom. In addition to the medical crime that accompanied this, and this was confirmed by the autopsy report on his body later, knowing that he was suffering from a congenital problem in the intestines before his administrative detention, and he needed health follow-up and food commensurate with his illness, which the prison administration did not adhere to, and deliberately carried out a crime. A
clear medical case against him led to his martyrdom.

The Prisoner’s Club stated that administrative detainee Mohsen Hassan Kamil (21 years old) from Jenin, who was recently released, suffered a setback one day after his release, and had to be transferred to the hospital several times, after severe health symptoms appeared on him, and the doctors were forced to perform a delicate operation. In the stomach, it was found that he was suffering from a blockage in one of the arteries in the stomach, noting that Kamil was arrested on 3/29/2022, and remained in administrative detention until the date of his release on the 10th of April, when the occupation issued seven administrative detention orders against him. Since the date of his arrest in the year 2022, and before his arrest, he had not suffered from any significant health problems. Symptoms of his illness appeared during the last months of detention, specifically after October 7, when he, like all detainees and prisoners in the Negev Prison, was subjected to
beatings, in addition to… All the procedures and crimes that all prisoners face today, and since his release he is still undergoing treatment and needs continuous health follow-up.

Among the prisoners who were recently released, and who was in a difficult health condition that also required him to be transferred to the hospital, was the detainee Jamil Fathi Al-Turabi (49 years old) from the town of Sarra/Nablus, who was arrested on 10/27/2023, as Al-Turabi was suffering before his arrest from… Health problems in the bones and nerves, and he needed health follow-up, but the administrative detention process, which lasted for 6 months, led to a clear deterioration of his health condition, as a result of the attacks that he faced, like all prisoners in the Negev prison, and upon his release on April 25. /2024, he was suffering from difficulty in movement, and was unable to walk on his own, knowing that throughout his detention he did not receive the necessary treatment for him, and he, like hundreds of sick
prisoners, was exposed to a medical crime.

The Prisoner’s Club also referred to the case of the detainee, Muhammad Ahmad Abu Fununa from Hebron, who was released on 4/25/2024, after administrative detention that lasted for 6 months since his arrest in October 2023, when he was transferred to the hospital immediately after his release. He was suffering from a difficult health condition, as a result of the repeated attacks he faced in the Ofer and Negev prisons, where he was held for the majority of his detention in the Negev prison. This is in addition to his suffering before his arrest from diabetes, blood problems, and the pancreas, and he needed follow-up. diligent health care, and according to the testimony of the detainee Abu Fununa, he indicated that the process of providing him with insulin in the Negev prison was accompanied by systematic abuse, by tying his hands behind his back and feet, and blindfolding him when he was transported to the clinic to provide him with an insulin needle. This is in addi
tion to the attacks that She accompanied him during his transfer.

It is noteworthy that Abu Fununa is a former prisoner who spent more than 13 years, and most of his arrests were administrative. He is the father of the martyr Mahmoud Abu Fununa, who was arrested in 2016, as he was an administrative detainee at the time.

In the context of reviewing a number of cases that were released recently, we mention the most difficult case that was released after the 7th of October, which is the detainee Farouk Al-Khatib from Ramallah, who was released on 12/20/2023 after spending four months administratively, and it turned out He suffers from cancer and that the disease is in an advanced stage. Al-Khatib was subjected to a clear medical crime, which led to him reaching a dangerous stage of health, and today, after several months have passed since his release, his condition has reached extremely dangerous stages after the cancer has spread in his body, and what To this day, he still stays in Istishari Hospital in Ramal
lah.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club confirms that the systematic medical crimes pursued by the occupation constituted and still are the most prominent systematic crimes carried out against prisoners over many decades, and it worked with all the tools at its disposal to develop methods and tools in an attempt to kill prisoners slowly, but these crimes escalated after the seventh From October, as a result of the retaliatory measures imposed as we mentioned previously.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club renews its call to the United Nations for the need to open an independent international investigation into the systematic crimes committed against detainees and prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons, and to restore its necessary and required role to save what remains of the essence of its work, and to bear its necessary responsibilities towards what is happening in light of the continuing genocide against our people in Gaza, and the comprehensive aggression against various Palestinian geography.

The number
of prisoners in the occupation prisons is more than 9,500, including more than 3,660 administrative detainees as of the beginning of this April.
