UOB prepares to launch the 3rd International Conference on Sustainable Islamic Business and Finance

University of Bahrain (UOB) will hold the third edition of the Islamic Sustainable Business and Finance Conference on September 24-25.

The conference held virtually, will bring together academic researchers, educators, doctoral students, and practitioners from various international institutions to discuss how Islamic Business and Finance contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, UOB president, emphasised the significance of Islamic finance as an effective tool that contributes to driving economic, social and environmental sustainability and funding development programmes.

He also highlighted the crucial role of entrepreneurs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth through innovation and creativity to maintain competitive edge.

Dr. Al Ansari said that the university’s efforts in providing platforms for discussions on the advantages, contributions, practices, financial, ethical, and social guidelines of Islamic economics and finance; is aligned with the leading position Bahrain holds in Islamic finance.

Participants in the conference will present and discuss the latest innovations, trends, concerns, challenges and solutions in this field, which can play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of sustainable development goals.

It will include sessions to showcase recent developments and applications in the field of Islamic business and finance. Research papers will discuss several topics including Islamic business and globalization; the legal and regulatory framework governing Islamic finance; Islamic finance and social responsibility; using AI applications in Islamic banking; Shari’a governance and Islamic finance; green Islamic finance; financial engineering and risk management in Islamic banking; the jurisprudence of Islamic financial transactions, Islamic financial technology, entrepreneurship and small enterprises, Islamic finance and sustainable development, accounting standards and practices related to the Islamic financial industry and Islamic endowment funds.

The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research said that the deadline for the submission of preliminary research papers will be on August 30, noted that those wishing to participate will receive acceptance notifications on 10 September.

The deadline for submission of final research papers will be on September 20, via https://icsibf.uob.edu.bh.

The Islamic Banking Department at the College of Business Administration offers undergraduate and master’s programs in Islamic banking and finance, as well as a PHD program in business analysis with a specialization in Islamic banking. The department aims to equip students with knowledge in Islamic banking, Islamic financial transactions, banking law, and prepare them to work in the Islamic financial services sector, with a diverse group of specialised professors in Islamic banking sciences, as well as experts in the field of Islamic finance.
