The call concluded with Company leadership answering questions from the investor community. This milestone report highlights the initiative’s outcomes, impact, and collective learnings between 2017 and 2022 and serves as a retrospective, a showcase for the initiative’s success stories and challenges, and a much-needed vision for the future.

Michael Fredrich, Lead Access to Medicine Non-Communicable Diseases at Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Chair of the Access Accelerated Board, commented, “With the 2030 deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals approaching fast, which include Universal Health Coverage, it’s more important than ever that we make the most out of our resources and approach this fight strategically. This report gives us the opportunity to critically evaluate our past and use key learnings for the future. It is essential that we share insights and learn from our collective efforts. Much work lies ahead, but this report serves as a valuable foundation for effectively addressing NCDs.”

This initiative’s impact has already been felt widely. Access Accelerated and its strategic partners – the City Cancer Challenge Foundation, NCD Alliance, PATH, the World Bank and the World Heart Federation – have helped improve access to NCD screening, diagnosis, and treatment around the world, reaching over 700 million people through 54 partner projects in 37 countries and catalyzing $US1.6 billion in investment in 2022 alone. By the end of phase 2 (2020-2022), this number totalled $US3.7 billion. In the same period, Access Accelerated partner projects contributed to policy change in 35 countries and 13 projects were scaled to national level, moving away from pilot phase to locally embedded projects.

Six years since its founding, the initiative has accumulated a wealth of hard-won knowledge and experience. The report highlights those learnings, including the crucial role of open, transparent communication in measuring intangible impact of partnerships, the ways flexible long-term funding can open the way for locally embedded solutions, and why community- and patient-centric approaches are essential to sustainability. By capturing impacts beyond hard numbers, the report demonstrates the importance of local engagement, trust, and social capital in improving NCD outcomes over time.

According to Dr. Juan Pablo Uribe, World Bank’s Global Director for Health, Nutrition & Population and Director of the Global Financing Facility, the report demonstrates the importance of rigorous monitoring and reporting. “Learning from our successes and challenges is absolutely necessary if we are going to shape more efficient and effective initiatives that can respond to the growing NCD burden on countries around the world. That’s why we’re excited to have the insights offered by this report to inform future initiatives and are grateful to the partnership with Access Accelerated which has led to meaningful action in creating sustainable change.”

European MPs: Syria’s return to Arab League meetings is in the region’s interest

The resumption of Syria’s participation in the meetings of the Arab League represents an important step that is in the interest of the region and the Arab world as a whole, Spanish Member of the European Parliament Manu Pineda, affirmed.

“The attempts to keep Syria away from the international forums have been an illegal act that only serves the interests and aspirations of the US,” the Spanish MP said in an interview with SANA correspondent in Madrid.

“What Syria needs now are the relations that are based on mutual respect, an end to the occupation of its territory, and the cessation of looting and theft of its natural resources, so that the Syrian people can build a stable and lasting peace away from all external and foreign interventions”, Pineda added.

Pineda expressed his absolute rejection and condemnation of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

Pineda stressed the need to respect international law and help the Syrian people and stand by them in order to rebuild their country without any interference in their internal affairs, and only in this way can peace, progress and prosperity be achieved in the region.

In turn, former member of the Czech Parliament Yergy Vivadil affirmed in an article that the participation of President Bashar al-Assad in the Jeddah Summit and the resumption of Syria’s participation in the Arab League meetings represent a new defeat for the US policies in the Middle East region.

He noted that Syria will continue to play a key role in the region.

Al-Munajjid: Resuming cooperation with ALO, a positive start to face challenges

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Louai Imad al-Din al-Munajjid underlined the necessity of cooperation to boost the basics of economic and social stability, and to achieve the safe return of the Syrians to their homeland.

A-Munajjid’s remarks came in a speech at 49th session of Arab Labor Conference held in Cairo.

“The conference discusses means of promoting social work at the national and Arab levels, as a better strategic option to enhance economics of society, and it works on facing the crises and addressing their repercussions,” Minister al-Munajjid said.

He highlighted what Syria has been exposed to due to the war waged against it, the unilateral economic coercive measures, and the arbitrary acts of the Israeli occupation entity in the occupied Golan.

The minister affirmed that resuming cooperation programs between Arab Labor Organization(ALO) and Syrian Arab Republic constitutes a positive start towards activating joint cooperation tracks, in light of the economic and political challenges facing Syrian workers in a number of host countries.

He called again for the right cooperation between ALO and Syria to intensify efforts, particularly to support the return of Syrians to their homeland.

In turn, Head of Syrian Workers Union, Jamal al-Qadri, said: ‘We call for rejecting the blockade policies imposed by the US and its allies against all countries that do not adhere to its policies, which have no basis under the international law.”

Al-Qadri underscored the importance of the Arab stance in rejecting these policies, which affect the Syrian people and prevent them from the most basic requirements of life, and hinder the economic recovery.

Iran renews its condemnation of unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria

Iran renewed its condemnation of the unilateral sanctions and coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people by the US and its allies.

“The continuation of US and the EU unilateral sanctions, and the looting of Syrian natural resources by illegitimate foreign forces have a negative impact on the humanitarian situation in Syria and have increased the challenges facing the Syrian people and hindred the government’s ability to provide basic services to its people” , Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted Iranian Ambassador and Assistant Permanent Representative to UN Zahra Arshadi as saying.

Ambassador Arshadi speech came during a UN Security Council meeting on “Ensuring the security and dignity of civilians in conflict: addressing food insecurity and protecting essential services” under the agenda item “Protection of civilians in armed conflict”.”

Arshadi stressed that unilateral coercive measures have dire consequences, especially food insecurity, which affects civilians, especially women and children, in addition to obstructing the provision of vital aid.

“The Israeli entity also continues its aggression and terrorist attacks against Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with complete impunity and without any consequences by the international community, which requires an international stance on rejecting and condemning these attacks”, Arshady said.
