Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen Sign Southampton Winger Nathan Tella

Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen announced Sunday the signing of English winger Nathan Tella from the English club Southampton.

The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal to join the newcomers during this summer transfer period – German Jonas Hofmann, Swiss Granit Xhaka, Nigerian Victor Boniface, and Croatian Josip Stanisic.

Leverkusen’s sporting managing director Simon Rolfes hailed Tella as a fast winger who can score and has potential to develop.

Tella starred for Burnley on loan last season and contributed to the team’s promotion to the Premier League by scoring 17 goals.

OIC Calls on International Community to Redouble Efforts to Create Conditions for the Return of Rohingya Refugees to their Homeland

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims and reiterated its commitment to pursue justice and accountability for the atrocities committed by the Myanmar military against them, particularly at the International Court of Justice.

OIC thanked the government and people of Bangladesh for providing shelter and humanitarian relief to the Rohingya people, and expressed appreciation for the support extended by many OIC member states to these refugees.

OIC also reiterated its firm resolve to support the Rohingya Muslims and called on the international community to renew its commitment to create conditions conducive to the “voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return of Rohingya refugees to their homeland in Myanmar”.

The OIC General Secretariat called upon the international community to redouble efforts and provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance for the displaced Rohingya living in refugee camps, in light of the considerable decline in funding that resulted in cuts in food assistance.

August 25, 2023, marked the sixth year since the forced mass displacement of the Rohingya Muslims and of other communities from Myanmar’s Rakhine State and the beginning of the huge influx of these people to Bangladesh

CST Seeks Public Consultation on Space Data Platform Regulations, Space Data Platform

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) invites the public to submit their input on the Space Data Regulations Platform and Application Document for Obtaining a Permit to provide Space Data Platform Services, which aims to establish the regulatory environment for the space sector and attract investments to contribute to the growth of the GDP, as well as to increase the effectiveness of space data governance.

CST stated that through the publication of these two documents, any entity that undertakes to establish a platform that acts as a marketplace for space data, and to collect and process the space data received from satellite operators, such as satellite images, remote sensing data, orbital data, weather data and astronomy data, can get informed with the view to obtain a license.

The platform also connects satellite operators, technical solution and application developers, researchers and entities wishing to obtain space data-based solutions.

CST underlined that the Application Document for Obtaining a Permit to provide Space Data Platform Services includes guidelines and requirements for entities interested in acquiring a license, as well as obligations of relevant parties to ensure user rights and data security.

CST calls on all concerned parties and stakeholders to provide their comments, observations and suggestions regarding the documents, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and clarity in engaging all relevant entities. HRH Crown Prince Launches Master Plan for Logistics Centres to Make Kingdom a Global Logistical Hub

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Transport and Logistics, has launched the Master Plan for Logistics Centres, which aims to develop the infrastructure of the Kingdom’s logistical sector, diversify the local economy, and enhance the status of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a leading investment destination and a global logistical hub.

HRH the Crown Prince stressed that the plan is part of a package of ongoing initiatives set as targets by the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) with the aim of developing the logistical sector to support the economy, increase the local, regional and international connections of the international trade networks and global supply chains, boost the partnership with the private sector, and thus increase the opportunity to generate jobs, and make of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a global logistical hub, given its geographical location among three important continents: Asia, Europe and Africa.

The Master Plan for Logistics Centers stipulates 59 centres with a total area of more than 100 million square meters, including 12 in Riyadh Region, 12 in Makkah Region, 17 in the Eastern Region, and 18 distributed in the rest of the Kingdom. There are currently 21 centres being worked on. All centres will be completed by 2030.

The centres will also enable local industries to export Saudi products with high efficiency, support e-commerce by facilitating a rapid link between logistics centres and distribution centres in the Kingdom’s various regions, cities and governorates, provide high traceability and facilitate the issuance of licenses to practice logistic activity, especially after the launch of the unified logistics license and the licensing of more than 1,500 local, regional and international logistics companies, and the launch of the Fasah initiative (an E-system integrated in Saudi customs), in cooperation with the concerned government agencies.

The logistics services sector represents one of the promising pillars of economic diversification and development in the Kingdom. It is currently witnessing many important initiatives and major developments aimed at developing the sector and expanding its economic and developmental contributions. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics seeks to develop the logistics industry, enhance the export strategy, expand investment opportunities, and strike partnerships with the private sector.

Jury of King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition Listens to Recitations of 11 Contestants

The jury of the final qualifiers of the 43rd edition of the King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran has listened this morning to the recitations of 11 contestants from Lebanon, Togo, Chad, Indonesia, Jordan, Mali, Italy, Nigeria, Congo, Yemen and Sierra Leone.

It will resume its work in the evening to listen to the recitations of other contestants from different countries.

The King Abdulaziz International Competition is held under the auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and currently taking place at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. It features 166 contestants from 117 countries.

Saudi Film Commission Partakes in 80th Venice International Film Festival

The Saudi Film Commission will participate in the 80th Venice International Film Festival, which will take place from August 30 to September 9 in Venice, Italy.

The participating Saudi delegation will be headed by Film Commission CEO Eng. Abdullah Al-Eyaf.

The commission will host a group of international experts in a panel discussion titled “Challenges and Solutions to Marketing Non-English Films to a Global Audience” during its participation in the round-table meeting.

The commission will also promote a campaign for the Saudi film industry’s notable success and development in this vital and creative field.

The Film Commission seeks to consolidate its presence and relationship with international filmmakers through dialogue sessions and bilateral meetings and to promote incentive programs to attract and encourage international film productions to film in the Kingdom’s unique terrain.

Venice International Film Festival is the first film festival in history and one of the three most prominent international festivals currently; it hosts and honours the most prestigious and famous figures in the film industry.

Minister of Tourism holds extensive consultation meeting with tourism sector’s key stakeholders

H.E. Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, the Minister of Tourism, held an extensive consultation meeting with the tourism sector’s key stakeholders in the Kingdom of Bahrain including private tourism establishments, hotels, hospitality organizations, DMCs, as well as, travel agencies.

The Minister emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority (BTEA) to enhance the engagement of various tourism facilities within the Kingdom of Bahrain, to drive further growth in the tourism sector.

She highlighted the pivotal role these establishments play in supporting the Ministry of Tourism’s and BTEA’s plans, initiatives, and programs. Additionally, she underscored that these facilities are direct beneficiaries of this growth, emphasizing their substantial contributions.

Minister Al Sairafi highlighted that this meeting aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to engage in constant consultations with partners within the private tourism sector. It also reflects the Ministry’s practice of holding regular meetings to ensure these partners are well-informed about the progress in the Ministry of Tourism and BTEA’s strategies and initiatives. This includes updates on preparations for the upcoming tourist season and the anticipated role these partners will play in it.

“The dynamic landscape of the tourism industry, coupled with heightened regional and international competitiveness to attract tourists, necessitates a heightened dedication to collaboration and cooperative efforts among all stakeholders in the tourism sector. This collaboration extends across governmental and private entities, with the goal of safeguarding Bahrain’s share of the global and regional tourism market. There is also an emphasis on augmenting this share by concentrating on the unique elements and foundational aspects that define Bahrain’s tourism sector.” said Minister Al Sairafi.

Minister Al Sairafi highlighted that the tourism sector is presently experiencing a favorable phase of transformation, directly underscoring the remarkable tourism potential across various regions within Bahrain. She urged all stakeholders to capitalize on the abundant opportunities inherent in the sector, advocating for the comprehensive enhancement of Bahrain’s tourism framework as a cohesive endeavor.

Dr. Naser Qaedi, CEO of BTEA, highlighted the strategic plans to develop the existing partnerships between BTEA and its main partners in the tourism sector. Dr. Qaedi asserted the BTEA’s commitment to provide all kinds of necessary support to its partners, including national calendar licensing and visa support, developing comprehensive marketing plans to promote the tourism packages, developing itineraries in collaboration with the DMCs and hotels, and embarking on promoting Bahrain as a tourism destination with the launch of the Bahrain season of festivities starting in October 2023.

Dr. Jeffrey Goh, CEO of Gulf Air Group, unveiled an ambitious strategy aimed at strengthening the group’s role in bolstering the tourism sector within the Kingdom of Bahrain. He outlined a comprehensive plan encompassing three distinct phases, the inaugural phase of which has recently been initiated. This initial phase centers on promoting Bahrain as a desirable stopover for Gulf Air passengers undergoing lengthy transits. The intention is to allow these passengers to venture out of the airport for a few hours and relish the attractions of Bahrain, both in terms of tourism and heritage.

Dr. Goh elaborated that the second phase, slated for launch in the fourth quarter of this year, will involve the national carrier actively encouraging its passengers and the broader user base of Bahrain Airport to extend their stay by one or two nights in Bahrain. This will be facilitated through collaborative packages, in close partnership with local hotels.

The third phase, according to Dr. Goh, revolves around Gulf Air Group positioning Bahrain as a prominent inclusion in the roster of several key tourist cities across the region. This initiative seeks to make Bahrain an integral component of the travel itinerary for tourists who intend to explore multiple countries and cities within the region during their holidays. He further clarified that this phase is set to commence in the first quarter of 2024.

A presentation was delivered by Mrs. Maryam Toorani, the Director of Marketing and Promotions at the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. The presentation encompassed a range of forthcoming events orchestrated by the Authority, with a spotlight on the upcoming December events. These include the second edition of Bahrain Holidays and the anticipated Dana Amphitheater concerts, among other engaging initiatives. Mrs. Toorani extended an invitation to all attendees to actively partake in these upcoming events.

Furthermore, Mrs. Maryam Toorani, Director of Marketing and Promotion at the BTEA, presented during the meeting the prominent new tourism and entertainment events for the current year in several regions across the Kingdom and what opportunities are available to all tourism specialists in the sector in order to benefit from them by working with several partners that can come up with attractive tourism packages for the region, while providing seasonal vacation packages in coordination with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and the Gulf Air Group.

Southern Governorate’s heritage programme concludes

The Southern Governorate has concluded its heritage programme with a photo exhibition. The event included images that showcase the history of Bahrain in general and the Southern Governorate in particular.

The programme was part of the support and follow-up of Southern Governor, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa. It included a series of traditional and heritage activities, including workshops and lectures.

HH Shaikh Nasser’s victory catalyst for more achievements

The success of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Team Captain, in winning the 160-km race of the Monpazier Standard Show in France, confirms HH’s keenness to continue bringing about more achievements to Bahrain’s endurance sport.

After lifting the title of the World Endurance Championship in Abu Dheeb, UAE, six months ago, HH Shaikh Nasser managed to showcase his prowess again after winning the Monpazier Standard Show 2023, amid fierce competition from more than 85 experienced jockeys from many countries.

HH Shaikh Nasser stated that his victory represents an impetus for attaining more achievements in the upcoming competitions, including the Monpazier Endurance Championship, set to be held on September 7, 2024.

The Royal Endurance Team today concluded its participation in the Monpazier Standard Show after taking part in the 100-km and 120-Km races.

UAE riders Zayed Mohammed and Rasheed Hameed won the first and second places of the 120-km race.

Royal Endurance Team’s riders and technical staff expressed delight at HH Shaikh Nasser’s success in winning the 160-km race of the Monpazier Standard Show.

They extended congratulations to HH Shaikh Nasser on the exploit that confirmed his distinguished capabilities.

They indicated that they will draw inspiration from HH Shaikh Nasser’s determination and resolve to attain the best results during the upcoming competitions.
