Forum on Government Procurement 2024 Concluded

The forum on government procurement plan for 2024 concluded today. The four-day forum reviewed projects with a total value of up to QR 76.2 billion intended to be implemented by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), and the country’s health sector represented by the Ministry of Public Health, the Hamad Medical Corporation, the Primary Health Care Corporation, and Naufar, in addition to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

During the forum, Ashghal highlighted 116 public tenders intended to be launched for the year 2024 with a value of approximately QR59 billion, while Kahramaa reviewed 279 public tenders for the same year with a value of approximately QR 8.9 billion. The health sector plans to launch a total of 1,710 public tenders with a value of about QR7 billion, while the Ministry of Education and Higher Education revealed 297 tenders with a total value of QR 1.3 billion and the Ministry of Municipality revealed 145 public tenders.

The tenders within the government procurement plan for 2024 varied between infrastructure projects and various other projects, in addition to providing services and supplying items and contracting works.

In this context, Director of Procurement and Tenders at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Noof Al Qashouti unveiled the ministry plans to launch 297 tenders next year with a total value of QR 1.3 billion. During her review on the last day of the forum of the Ministry’s procurement plan for the year 2024, she expected that 204 tenders will be offered during the first quarter, 41 of them in the second quarter, 34 in the third quarter, and 18 tenders in the fourth quarter.

As for the sectors, Al Qashouti explained that 182 of these tenders are meant for providing services worth QR 1.1 billion, 45 are for supplying items and providing services worth QR 173 million, 69 tenders are for supplying items worth about QR 39 million, and one contracting project worth QR1.5 million.

She stated that 96 percent of the ministry’s total contracts in effect are concluded with local companies, and that 18 percent of this are contracts to supply items and provide services, while 53 percent of these contracts are to provide services and 29 percent of them are for the supply of items.

She stressed the importance of offering these tenders to the private sector in the country, allowing national companies and factories to be introduced to the ministry’s future projects, giving them the opportunity to be optimally prepared to participate in the projects, providing an important incentive to attract investments, and supporting the state’s direction towards strengthening the principle of publicity, equal opportunities, and freedom of competition.

Education in Qatar is considered one of the most important pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030 that aims to build a diversified knowledge-based economy, she said, adding the ministry, as the body responsible for setting educational policies in the country, takes on the task of graduating a critical thinking, self-reliant, hard working generation dedicated and armed with the necessary skills to succeed in his practical and professional life. Therefore, the Ministry has developed the necessary strategies, curricula and support for all parties of the educational system with international standards and quality, which qualifies it to supervise private and public schools as well as universities in the State of Qatar, she added.
